By day 2 the anxiousness I was feeling had now disappeared. Everything seems very organized and it is clear that the company focuses on communication. Regular emails are being sent with clear instructions. At this point we were asked to download and make accounts for all the software we will need throughout the internship. This included Trello, which is the company’s project management tool. Prep Hero, which is the registration platform they use for athletes to sign up to camps. EXACTSports.com, to review the planned schedule of events for each sport this summer. Slack, for internal communication throughout all employees at EXACT Sports.
In the build-up to beginning the first actual projects we were given a “warm-up task”. This is to familiarize ourselves with the use of certain software and to understand how certain tasks are set moving forwards. This task was to research bot the camp industry and EXACT Sports by gathering 10 facts. Below is what I collected from my research:
EXACT Sports was founded in 2005 by Barry Tarter
Exact Sports offers a selection of sports camps, these include: boys/girls soccer, volleyball, baseball, basketball and lacrosse.
EXACT sports is the second largest employer of college coaches, behind the NCAA.
Around 45 million children in the US play youth sports each season.
71.8 percent of children in the US play an organized sport.
ID camps are designed to provide exposure for players, improve skills and create a learning environment.
The summer camp industry in the US is said to be worth more than $4billion.
The market size of the Sports Coaching industry in the US has grown 0.2% per year on average between 2016 and 2021.
In the US, the most popular youth sport is basketball. With over 450,000 girls and 550,000 boys playing for a school team.
There are around 8 million students competing in high school sports, around 495,000 will go on to compete at the NCAA level.
This exercise was not only important to understand how future tasks will be communicated to us via the Trello board. But it was interesting to learn more about the company and the industry I am about to be a part of.
